how to recover with last known good configuration

Asked by Prabal pratap singh

Hi friends,
I am using Ubuntu10.10 desktop on the computer.
Please someone help me to "restore computer to last known good configuration" as we do in windows XP.
Whenever i login at the startup to computer three dialog box appears:-

1. "Update ICEauthority file /home/prabal/.ICEauthority"
Then i click on close & second dialog box appears-

2. "Problem with configuration server (/usr/lib/libgconf 2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)"
Then i click on close & third dialog box appears-

3. "/home/prabal/Desktop , /home/prabal/.nautilus
Nautilus could not create these folders.
Before running Nautilus, Please create these folders or set permissions such that Nautilus can create them"
Then i click on ok.

After that nothing appers except a default pink wallpaper of Ubuntu 10.10
Terminal & shutdown menu also appears when i use thier corresponding short keys.
