Mouse cursor turns invisible on login but mouse works

Asked by Lloyd

So,

After typing in my password, my mouse disappears from the screen when the desktop appears. However, I can move my now invisible mouse up to the Applications panel and the dropdown menus appear to let me start what I want. Quite by accident, I opened up a Terminal window and started 'gedit'. The mouse then reappeared, and happily stays around for the rest of the session. This is what I now do on login, but I would prefer to understand and fix this little nuisance. I am running an old Dell with a PS2 mouse and 10.04 LTS.

Thanks,
Lloyd

Found it: I had changed the refresh rate in the preferences and when I changed it back to the default that was being used by the other login on my computer, it worked fine.
