Ubuntu 10.10 Beta - program windows are mislocated

Asked by hub_cap

In the latest download of 10.10 Beta, Foxfire, Evolution, etc windows are mislocated, or misplaced. They open or start Maximized so that they must be resized to fit on screen. I have dual boot with 10.04 LTS and this is not happening on 10.04.
Using Dell 610.

How can I get the windows to stay where I want them? I have tried ctr-x and alt-x without any effect.

UPDATE
I found a solution:

sudo mkdir gnome-settings-daemon

cd gnome-settings-daemon

sudo mkdir xrandr

gnome-display-properties

what is the starting folder you are making the first folder in????? It's VERY important....

You can also use devilspie to dictate where and how new app windows open.

That's great for you, but what about other users which might run into the same issue and search for an answer?
Please provide where you mkdir, thanks.
