Problems installing 10.04 with Intel H55 chipset

Asked by Jim Cobb

System boots CD, creates partition, installs OS. After reboot, allows me to log in, and then nothing... shows the basic background, but no taskbar, no icons... Can reboot and repeat all day long. I know from other posts that Intel boards take a bit of massage to get working, but I have never seen anything for this chipset.

If you boot to root recovery mode then run:

cd /home/foo; rm -r .g*; rm -r .config

replace foo with your username you setup at install time. Reboot and log in. Should be ok.

Actually, it did not work. I did not have a .g ... But it gave me the means figure out the real issue. I have it hooked up to a 46" Samsung, set to wide mode. I just couldnt see the taskbars. (duh) It was working properly all of the time. Though I have found that I can not size my screen to not do that. I am going to see if I can get drivers for that screen. Right now, it is showing up as a Samsung 7" screen.
Thank you for your assistance...
