Sebastien, would changing the default font size really affect anyone after upgrading? If they already have specified custom fonts, I certainly don't think they should be overridden upon upgrading. It should only affect new users. It's true that the fonts would be smaller for people using 96 dpi displays, and maybe there is a better solution, but I do believe (as Nicolò's screenshots demonstrate) that 10pt is too large when rendered accurately.

Personally, I believe the DPI setting should only be changable via xorg.conf/HAL (for advanced users) and there should be a general "UI Scale" option for users who simply want things to look bigger or visually impaired, etc. that would scale all UI elements. This is way beyond the scope of this particular bug, though.
