Ok if you want a trash icon in your desktop (type a folder), right click in your desktop and select "Create Launcher.."
Write:
Type = Application
Name = Trash
Command = nautilus trash:///
And select your favorite icon.

If you want to insert a trash icon in a panel (small trash icon in down-right your desktop), go to down panel (when there are a desktop images), right click, select a voice "Add to Panel" and add "Trash".

Sorry for my English....

ok solved it...so here it is for others to find when needed...
run in terminal: gconf-editor
enter your password if asked...
you will see three sections..on the left side expand the apps heading...go down the list to nautilus, go to desktop...
now on the right side o the screen you will see a list...click on the option "trash can visible" check the box next to it...it will be back on your desktop... exit out of gconf-editor...an that's it...enjoy peace of mind...enjoy ubuntu
