add/remove applications function hangs

Asked by haydemon

When I open the Add/Remove Applications window, and I select a program (or programs) to install (or uninstall), the application just hangs, and never asks me for my Administrator Password (like it used to), and then I cannot close it, or kill it (it doesn't show up in the System Monitor). It just hangs forever, until I just have to reboot to kill it. I'm running Hardy Heron 8.04 which, BTW, it's been one problem after another. Thanks!

Synaptic works, as well as apt-get through command-line.

Please open a terminal and try to run it via command line so you can view into terminal windows error and warming:

gnome-app-install

Hope this helps
