Will gnome-app-install be available in Lucid?

Asked by Sergey "Shnatsel" Davidoff

As Popcon indicates, a lot of people prefer gnome-app-install over software center, or at least have it installed in Karmic. I'm one of them an I think gnome-app-install is much handier because 1) one can install several apps at once and not bother clicking lots of useless buttons 2) it's easy to compare several apps which do similar things (and there's a lot of these in Ubuntu). I'm using it in my Ubuntu remix. Is there any way to keep gnome-app-install and ensure its critical updates? Will a separate, non-dummy package be provided, or will it be released via PPA?

Sergey,

Doesn't look good for gnome-app install I'm affraid:

   gnome-app-install - dummy upgrade package for gnome-app-install -> software-center

Looks like gnome-app-install has been removed from the default Ubuntu repository, so unless the DEB from Karmic works (I wouldn't personally recommend trying; maybe it would work or maybe it will break your system?) looks like you are out of luck I'm affraid.

Best of luck,
George

So, releasing it in a PPA is not planned?

There is a build for Lucid in https://launchpad.net/~hammera/+archive/ppa.
