libc6-i686 on a i386 machine ? boot up prob.?
Hi i have Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 and have started to get boot problems after updates on my machine which is a i386 32bit. I have your fully functioning Karmic Cd which i originally used.
Can you tell me if the GNU shared library libc6-i686 is wrong for my machine ? I have a ATI Radeon Graphics card xpress 200m if that helps. My comp was purchased nov 07.
Hope you can help.
p.s my boot up was fine until the updates.
Thanks
Matt Holbrook

That library's fine, i386 is generally used to distinguish the 32-bit Intel architecture from the 64-bit Intel/AMD architecture.
Whatever your boot problems they're probably unrelated to the libc6 update. What are the boot problems?

Its OK after a complete reinstall and system update.
On the odd occasion after an update i ended up with a blank screen. But now it just does that when i try to rush and close the comp down by closing the laptop screen itself (physically) and turning off mains.( screen goes blank and theres no return from hibernation.)
I must say for a couple errors i'd settle for that any day because Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 is brill and has so many free options.
Many Thanks.
