Update libglfw3 to (at least) version 3.3.3?

Asked by Ejebejtnsksnfn

In GLFW versions 3.3.2 (the version Ubuntu currently packages) and lower, there is a bug in GLFW that causes for inputs to be delayed or ignored in X11. This bug has been a major annoyance for me and others. However, this bug has been fixed since GLFW 3.3.3 thanks to this commit: https://github.com/glfw/glfw/commit/9a3664b4a992a5a9b669179098542b0f882dece7. Would it be possible to update the GLFW package to 3.3.3 or newer in order to fix this issue?

Please see the linked FAQ for the strategy with respect to package updates in already published Ubuntu releases.

For the Ubuntu release currently in development (jammy, 22.04) the case is a bit different. Such release can be provided, if that version is already available in Debian. But also Debian has only versions up to 3.3.2

First step to bring 3.3.3 or higher into Ubuntu 22.04 is creating a bug report in Debian, that they upgrade their package.

There may be the possibility to get the problem solved via patching:
If the change in https://github.com/glfw/glfw/commit/9a3664b4a992a5a9b669179098542b0f882dece7 solves the problem also in older versions of glfw3, then it might be worth requesting this via a bug report in Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
