Info about (and feature request for) the git-daemon-run package (lucid)

Asked by Kendall Gifford

Not a "launchpad" pro yet so apologies if this isn't the correct place for this question.

I'm looking to submit a "feature request" for the git-daemon-run package (I use Ubuntu Server 10.04). This package info on the ubuntu site (http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/git-daemon-run) refers me here. So, I assume this is the correct place.

Anyhow, those of us that would like to simply to an `apt-get install X` in order to run a git-daemon service with best practices observed will default to using a package (this one) if available. I'd like to request, however, that unless there is some need that I'm not aware of, can we switch to using upstart instead of runit? It seems heavy-handed to install any such service management system when Ubuntu already has one.

Anyhow, that's all. I don't know anything about contributing but I'd be willing to (as I've set up my own upstart-based equivalent of this package).

To submit a feature request in such a way that it is considered by the Ubuntu developers, you should file it as a bug. To do that, read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully, and follow those instructions. You should search to see if this has already been reported as a bug, before submitting your own bug report. Once you've filed your bug, you can link the bug and this question to each other by using the "Link existing bug" link at the top of this page. While it is a good idea to do that, your bug report should be self-contained; the developers should not need to visit this question page in order to fully understand and appreciate your bug report / feature request.

Note that there’s already a Debian bug for a git-daemon-run sysvinit script that’s open and being worked on:

Cool, thanks for the info. Looks like my "feature request" is essentially being handled already by various debian users. Thanks for the link Anders.
