gain root access to edit source list that is read only

I am not able to gain access as root because the file source. list is read only I need to edit the source. list to finish installing libdvdcss2 for viewing encripted movie dvd's

What ubuntu that you use?

can you open your nautilus as root?

press alt+F2, and type gksudo nautilus (if you using gnome) ... (after that you can open all of file as root)

You must edit your sources.list with root privileges. Open terminal from Applications-> Accessories-> Terminal and type

gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Make your edits. Then save and close.
