tab interaction with the mouse

Asked by Keith

There are two things that I am used to doing with a tabbed interface, that don't seem to be possible in gedit:

I would like to be able to middle click on a tab to close it.
I would like to be able to double click in some empty space in the tab bar and have a new tab open (so gedit would create a new unsaved document).

(For example, these features are available in Mozilla Firefox)

Currently nothing happens when I attempt either of the above.

Hi Keith,
there is a wishlist, but didn't see the features you'd like.
http://live.gnome.org/Gedit
http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/RoadMap

However, you might like shortcuts doing this work,
Ctrl + W ##Close the current document
Ctrl + N ##Create a new document
http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/KeyboardShortcuts

Finally there exist other text editors which can be downloaded with Synaptic, e.g. Tea, just search for text editor and read descriptions.
Enjoy Ubuntu.
