gedit with ssh or sftp

Asked by jekle

I connect with nautilus over ssh to my server. It automatically creates a sftp connection which works well. I can open files with double-click in gedit.

Now, when I click "open file" in gedit, it brings up the dialog with my local home directory, it would be awesome if the open/dialog could show the current directory on the ssh/sftp server to just open another file from that directory.

Thank You in advance

Jens

on the left side of the open files dialog there should be a section called places, first listing searches, then local places and below network mounts and the like...

Hi Michael,

yes, you are of course right, within the open files dialog I can navigate manually to the "current working directory". This works well.

My Idea is, when you click open file, the dialog would show the parent directory on the ssh server of the file which is currently shown by gedit.

The same behaviour is used when it comes to local file handling.

Thank You for your answer, Michael.

Best Regards,
Jens

this should probably be filed as a bug against nautilus/gfvs... dont know which program is the ultimate culprit...

...converting to a bug.

I am a newcomer here in launchpad, this was my first experience with the questions-component. On my last comment I had to say that my "Problem isnt solved", but In the meantime I realized that my question is more a feature request than a problem.

I am quite sure that on some nice day in the future this behaviour goes real.
