Search without a pop-up?

Asked by Schwarzburg

Is there a way to search in the current document without a pop-up window that hides what I'm looking for?

Chrome for example has a small search entry in the top-right corner that does not hide any text in the center. Emacs and evince have a bar at the bottom that does not hide any text in the center.

Having the search entry not covering the text is really useful, but I can't seem to find a way to do this with gedit. Any ideas?

Gedit in Oneiric looks the SAME as Chrome when it comes to searching, same top right search box.
