How to do search/replace in gedit on strings containing \"

Asked by Lorraine Lee

What if anything can I type into the "search for" field of the "replace" dialog in gedit (I'm using version 2.30.4), that will match the expression consisting of two consecutive double-quote characters?

gedit does not have a problem with either finding or replacing strings with a backslash in them. Can you give an example of a string that is causing you problems?

My original problem was with "double double quotes" or "" which I was trying to replace with \" in a CSV spat out by LibreOfficeCalc.

Since then,

1. I have found that MySQL treats "" and \" as equivalent anyways

2. I found out that my inability to do said search was because I had the "match entire word only" box checked.

So, problem solved, sorry to have bothered anyone.
