can not edit q3config.cfg

Asked by Jayne

I am very new to Ubuntu (<less than 2 weeks).
I am using a dual boot system (XP and Ubuntu 10.04).
I am trying to edit q3config.cfg to fix a screen resolution problem. (game is smokin'guns)
It only opens the file in "read only" mode. Properties say that the file belongs to "Root" so I can't edit it.
Can't seem to figure out how to edit it or replace that file to correct the resolution problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Your user should own one too -- its in a hidden folder "/home/YOURUSERNAME/.q3a/"

try editing that (to enable show hidden items in nautilus, go to the view menu)

If you do need to edit the system-wide version,

run this from a terminal, or from the "run-command" prompt

gksudo gedit /etc/q3d/q3config.cfg

(or wherever that file is)
