The latest version is at
    http://www.psyguygames.com/SplitView3.0.tar.gz
The two files must be copied to the plugin directory in your home folder
    ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/
You need to restart gedit, then choose Preferences > Plugins form the gedit menu. check the SplitView plugin to activate it.

running ubuntu 10.04

no such directory
copied the files there any case but see nothing in plugins
also tried /usr/lib and /usr/share . . . no luck

surely it cannot be so difficult, any suggestions?

Gedit looks in
    /home/<your-login>/.gnome2/gedit/plugins
for plugins. It reads the .plugin file to learn what python module to load

You may need to create the plugins folder if it is not there.
