software similar to microsoft word pad

I am looking for a download that will work on ubuntu like microsoft's word pad where I can copy the parts of text that I want and past it to a clip board to print or save.

Ubuntu ships with an application called gedit.
This program should function very much like Wordpad and you will find is very easy to use.

gedit it's note wordpad similar. wordpad has some basic formating text. a light program that would do the job is abiword.

you can install it with the command:

sudo aptitude install abiword

or

sudo aptitude install abiword-gnome
(for a better integrated version in ubuntu gnome desktop).

if useing kubuntu i sugest useing kwrite (kde alternative to wordpad).
