     I'm not all that familiar with gedit, but it seems to allow for selection of fonts, so seems like all you should need for this is to make sure you have the koi8 fonts installed. Is that not the case? They are available via Synaptic Package Manager.

I am changing editors. gedit is just a simple editor. I prefer arachnophilia which can do the job. problem is simple opening a command shell.
Making a shell file. Run this shell file when then arachnophilia icon is clicked.
