want to print file without the file: /home... at the top of the page

How do I remove the top line that displays the file: /home/txt...
from the actual letter that I want to send?

When you print (File --> Print, or ctrl-p) a Print dialog window appears.
In the "Text Editor" tab there is a "Print page headers" option at the bottom. Click this to unmark it and the page headers will not be printed. To check this you can use the print preview.

Um... that's assuming you are using gedit in ubuntu. Sorry.
