How to view GDM documentation gdm3/docs/en_GB/en_GB.po?

Asked by SunBear

After cloning https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3, I found the GDM documentation in ~/gdm3/docs/en_GB/en_GB.po. However, it is written with a specific text view. What software should I use to read this file so that it will appear easy to read? E.g. no repeats of each paragraph, and no text app syntax but just plain text.

gdm3/docs/en_GB/en_GB.po is not the right documentation file.
This is a file used for translating the documentation into different languages, unsuitable for direct reading.

You better use gdm3/docs/en_GB/index.docbook
This file can be easily converted into readable files with tools from docbook-utils, e.g. docbook2html or docbook2pdf

@m-hampl Thanks. I just realised this documentation that "This manual describes version 2.26.0 of the GNOME Display Manager. It was last updated on 02/10/2009."

Is this the correct documentation for GDM 3.28.3? If not, can you point me to the correct documentation?

What do you want documentation on? What are you trying to achieve?

What kind of documentation are you looking for? End user documentation or developer documentation?

I assume that you best took at the GNOME pages for gdm. https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GDM/ and https://help.gnome.org/admin/gdm/

The documentation lies within responsibility of Gnome, and not Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
