How can I change the new GDM's theme?

Asked by Vincent

I first installed Xubuntu, then ubuntu-desktop. Now Ubuntu's GDM is used, however, I'd like to change it back to Xubuntu's. How would I do that and can it be done graphically?

Im login window onthe bottom left you will see options and from there select xfce.If you want to remove ubuntu-desktop then you have to read http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce

That's not exactly what I meant; I know how to log in to Xfce or GNOME, however, I want to apply Xubuntu's GDM _theme_ instead of Ubuntu's, i.e. change the way the login window looks.

(Oh, also, I forgot to mention that this is on 9.10, so with the *new* GDM)

Try:
gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties

That is indeed the way to edit the appearance, thanks for that. (I hope that gets made easier in the future)

As for this specific problem, I solved it by installing xubuntu-gdm-theme. This removed Ubuntu's theme and set Xubuntu's to be used. (Not quite sure if it uses gnome-panel and Metacity and the likes or not, but well...)
