How to change login screen font

Asked by Bill Gan

Does anyone know the official way to change the login screen font (font for the gdm3 user?) I tried installing a font globally and following the instructions here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1369852/how-to-change-ubuntu-21-10-gdm-background-to-a-image-or-to-a-color/1396066#1396066

but it has stopped working.

The app doesn't work, and I am also trying to install a custom font to use on the gdm3 login screen. How can I do this?

To change the login screen font in GDM (GNOME Display Manager), you can modify the ubuntu.css file, typically found at /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css. Open this file in a text editor with administrative privileges, locate the font settings section (usually containing font-family and font-size properties), and adjust them according to your preferences. Save the changes and then restart GDM with a command like sudo system ctl restart gdm. Keep in mind that system updates or changes in newer versions may impact the procedure, so it's advisable to check the latest documentation or community discussions for your specific Ubuntu and GDM versions if issues persist. Always exercise caution when modifying system files.
