How to configure sify broadband client in ubuntu 8.04.1

Asked by amitit11

Hello everybody
I am new to ubuntu community .Currently I am using ubuntu 8.04.1 Desktop edition.
I have taken a internet connection from sify broadband service.
I have all the details of TCP/IP setting like IP,DNS,Gateway,Subnetmask etc
but I am not able to configure the internet connection.
I have installed the sify braodband client for Ubuntu.
But when I type sudo sifyconnect in terminal I am getting a error like error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
In response to that I have tried this
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.4
But still I am not able to connect to Internet.
I am also getting a error as : unable to resolve the host ...

mmm... i think is time to ask for support to the ISP sify broadband service, maybe can help,
like the Mac Os X users do, at least try...

Your DNS configuration is wrong, so Ubuntu can't transform
 www.isp.com----->200.999.999.999 (just a example)

whats happen if you Ping something on the Internet?
like type and pres ENTER on the Terminal (apps--->Acesories--->Terminal):

ping www.ubuntu.com

Hi,

"Unable to resolve host" generally means that name > ip lookup dint suceed, so it means that you should check your DNS settings, ie you should enter dns IPs provided by sify. Also, i dont think that the dialer provided by sify for linux really works, ...i use supersify for the same, works for me and provides preedom from mac binding , i highly recommend using supersify....its java based, works on windows as well as linux, plus it doesnt enforce any antivirus on me....here is the url
http://thegoan.com/supersify/

Can you help with this problem?
