cannot shut down system

Asked by cygnus

Because of something that I did while tinkering with my system (Hardy Heron on Dell Inspiron 1420) I removed the option of "Shut Down" from the menu. Consequently, I cannot shutdown/poweroff my system. Even if I use "sudo reboot now", it executes some scripts and then gives back the login screen. But again, there is no option of shutdown there.
I would appreciate a fast reply, I am really stuck!!

Villiam Trepak solved an identical problem of Yury Kirienko. Viliam's suggestion also solves my problem. The solution is simply to run gdmsetup as sudo and enable "Show actions menu". Thanks to both of them.
