After 4.2.0-18.20 DVD writer not writing

Since the most recent update of the Linux kernel etc a brand new DVD writer only reads OK.

When writing an iso file is attempted with either Brasero or K3B the same error message is received:

"BraseroLibburn SCSI error condition on command 2Ah WRITE(10): See MMC specs: Sense Key 5 "Illegal request", ASC 21 ASCQ 04."

Any assistance resolving this issue is much appreciated.

Have you tried other burning applications, like xfburn?

xfburn says "No burners are currently available"

Inserting a DVD and/or CD results in proper playback without problem

After another investigation it turned out to be a hardware problem: changed SATA data cable and problem dismissed.
For no apparent reason co-incidental with recent upgrade.
