First login doesn't work, second does

Asked by Bart Cramer

Ubuntu version: Hardy Heron, alpha-4. I installed this distribution on sda2, with Gutsy on sda1. Swap is on sda3, /home is shared on sda4. I use a 915 Intel chipset (Compaq DC 7100), with the usual suspects (sound, LAN, video) integrated.

Running the LiveCD went fine, including 22" screen. Installation ran very smooth. During startup, immediately after GRUB, an AppArmor message appears, which I cannot read that fast. The login screen appears, also in correct resolution. It seems to recognize my login, and starts working on it. Failsafe doesn't work, failsafe terminal does give me a terminal.

As this is not a production machine, as recommended :), I will keep this distro in its current state. If there are any logfiles that I could attach to this report, please give me a note.

NEWS: the second time, it DOES boot, without problems.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report and subsequently we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at [WWW] https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see [WWW] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .
