GDM boots incompletely

Asked by Caspar Gross

Hello

While booting my Computer, everything is working until the login screen.
After logging in, only the default ubuntu background and a small white terminal appears in the right upper corner. There are no other elements on my desktop...

To make it working, i need to "sudo restart gdm" and then login again and startx.

Can you tell me what is causing this problem and how i can fix it?

Thanks!
Caspar

Perhaps this might help:

When trying to configure the login screen via the normal system-tool (system --> system properties --> login screen)
i cant change anything because im not allowed to enter my admin passwort. everything is greyed out and the unlocking button does not react.

I'm the single user on my computer so im fine with auto login without any password prompt, how can i do this now?
thanks
