Ubuntu takes very long to change users.

Asked by iang

First one type window appears for signing on, like my old 8.04 used to look like (but is definitely deleted), but only for a second, then the screen goes black for a few more seconds, then a new window appears, with which I can change users. And the more often I change, the worse the screen gets. I believe my computer only has an onboard graphic chip. I am using 10.10. Any ideas?

Because of several different problems with 10.10 I gave up and installed 10.04. Now everything is fine. I had the idea that maybe when I changed users (to root), I should have tried signing off and signing on instead. I also couldn't shut off the computer. I think this bug has been handled elsewhere.
Well, keep up the great work!
