I installed ubuntu 11.04 and on bootup all i see is the desktop Missing GUI

Asked by selkie707

I installed ubuntu 11.04 and on bootup all i see is the desktop, all menues and tasbars do not show up...
I can create files on the desktop and i can change the theme. Windows do not have any theme on the though as they are missing the bar on top with the close, minimize and maximize buttons. Is this because of Untity? Is there a way to fix this?

At boot before to made a login with your user please look at bottom of the gdm window and please select classical ubuntu
the Ubuntu 11.04 natty coming with unity as default but to have it fully functional compiz must be enabled so please try this solution.

Press ALT+F2 and run:

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

If your proficiency level is not so high, you should stick to the officially released Ubuntus. Natty is full of feature holes and many bugs. If you want to log bugs and have a half working OS then use natty, if you want an OS that works I suggest you use Lucid or Maverick.
