I log in and then Ubuntu logs me out

I log into ubuntu, see my desktop for a second, then a black screen and the login windows again? I can login with failsafe gnome but I haven't a clue what to do!

Ok, I'm good, thanks for the hemlp, sorry for the late response I left on vacation for two months and haven't had access to my email. Ubuntu 10.10 beta fixed the problem nicely.
