What is the initial login?

I installed Ubuntu desktop 9.10 from the CD. I didn't get prompted once I kicked off the installer so I was not asked to provide a user name or password at any point. Before I go through the install process again I ask is there a default account?

Since the install document and most, if not all of the answers indicate that I should have been prompted, are there any thoughts on what may have gone wrong?

The system will not ask you for a user and password if at install step you have asked (activate a checkbox) to made an automatic access...

To change use the gdmsetup command:
