This happens every time with Ubuntu software.

Are Ubuntu users all geeks, or can clots like me actually try new software which encloses simple "get started" notes

They vary wildly, some are super experienced, some are new and just taking their first steps.

Gdebi has been replaced by software centre now so if you double click a deb file it will open software centre. Why have you installed gdebi?

I only recently upgraded to 11.04. I like to check if there is new software available to download and came across the GDebi package. I assumed it was new, and the trend might be away from the ubuntu software centre (which I always use) but you have said that the reverse is true!

I shall continue to use the software centre then, so many thanks for the heads up.
