Accidentally deleted from nautilus

Asked by Izzy

Hi,

I was trying to fix my trash from showing its full and empty after an icon change wrecked it but now I accidentally deleted the line trash_icon_name <no value> from configuration editor. All my desktop icons are now missing. I tried creating the same key but the integer icon has a "1" icon picture and not a blank icon picture like the original keys. Can I create a <no value> key like the original? Please help.

Have you tried actually starting Nautilus? (As that sounds like for some reason or other Nautilus wasn't started).

Just open a terminal and run "nautilus &".

Or otherwise,

Course to a terminal (Press cntrl + alt +f1 or f2 in the login screen) Or boot up in recovery mode (Usually 2nd option in grub menu)

and give the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop

and

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

and reboot your system..

sudo reboot

Hope it helps

Bhavani Shankar.

In configuration editor. I've navigated to apps>nautilus>desktop. In there are the following entries:

computer_icon_name <no value>
computer_icon_visible (tick box)
home_icon_name <no value>
home_icon_visible (tick box)
network_icon_name <no value>
network_icon_visible (tick box)
trash_icon_name 0 <-------------------this line is the one I accidentally deleted. When I
trash_icon_visible (tick box) recreate it, I can't get it to show the <no value>
volume_visible (tick box) like the others do instead I have a 0.

Due to this all my desktop icons have dissapeared and it seems like I can't browse my computer from ubuntu? I created a new user and that seems to be fine. However I really need my current profile to work. Thanks again for your time and help. any other ideas?

Sorry that was messy. I've cleared it up on this post.

computer_icon_name_ _ _ _ _ <no value>
computer_icon_visible_ _ _ _ _ (tick box)
home_icon_name_ _ _ _ _ _ _ <no value>
home_icon_visible_ _ _ _ _ _ _ (tick box)
network_icon_name_ _ _ _ _ <no value>
network_icon_visible_ _ _ _ _ (tick box)
trash_icon_name 0 <----------------------------this line is the one I accidentally deleted. When I
trash_icon_visible_ _ _ _ _ _(tick box)_____recreate it, I can't get it to show the <no value>
volume_visible _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _(tick box)____like the others do instead I have a 0.

Thanks. That didnt work the first time because I did not delete the key I created. This time around I deleted the key I created and did what you said by reinstalling the ubuntu-desktop and it all came back. Thanks for your help!
