If you press ALT+F2 can you run:
nautilus

Thanks.

Hi :)

Please can you try using the Ubuntu Cd as a bootable Cd
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD
Perhaps try different combinations of the boot-options it offers

This should get you to a working desktop?
Please let us know how you get on!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Ps i guess you have a different machine that works?

Can you help with this problem?
