gcompris voices package

Asked by larry stevens

My husband built a computer for our 3 year old granddaughter. I am supposed to download the educational games for her to play. I downloaded the gcompris suite and the administration, however, when I go the the reading activities , the "letters", I get an error message that says "Error: this activity requires that you first install the packages with GCompris voices for the locale 'en' or 'en'.

As you can tell, I am fairly new to Ubuntu..... I have looked in the administration, and on the downloads, and cannot find what I need to do to download these GCompris voices. Please help me. Thank you.

you need to install another 'package' - it contains some voices for gcompris, to do this you'll need to use the 'synaptic package manager' which you can find in system -> adminstration -> synaptic package manager

once its open you can press the search button to do a search for 'gcompris' and then mark the package named 'gcompris-sound-en' and then press apply. it will then install the package for you

alternativly you can just type this command in a terminal
'sudo apt-get install gcompris-sound-en'
