No "View>Left-to-right Precedence" option present

Asked by dakin80 on 2009-10-14

There is no "View>Left-to-right Precedence" menu option present as described in the help contents and
the shortcut doesn't appear to work either.
This makes it cumbersome to use facilities such as square root.
I really want it to work just like my pocket calculator.
As it stands it makes the Microsoft calculator look elegant.

The Gnome calculator has many operation modes. The default is "basic" offering only the most basic operations. If you need more functionality you should try the other modes offered in den "View" menu.

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I was already using the Advanced view.

I want to use this tool to do very basic calculations much as I would do on my old pocket calculator and as is easily done using the Microsoft calculator tool. From the help menu I've determined that there should be an option on the view menu to switch to left-to-right expression evaluation that would allow me to do this but I see no such menu item. I don't want a different way of doing things, I just want to do it the way the help says that I should be able to do it.

I've only recently committed to making my main server machine run Ubuntu so I've not used Launchpad before. Looking more deeply now it appears that perhaps this question should really be in the bug report section. Could someone confirm that this option doesn't appear on their system before I make this into a bug report?

dakin80 and Ubuntu server machine run are not familiar to me so I have no way of knowing what should be done. I haven't mastered the calculator but certainly would like to it would come in handy lots of times. Where do I get all the help I need about Ubuntu - in the help section? I have the book - guess I should read it to find out my options and all I can learn about Ubuntu.

The information in the manual is not correct. There is no such mode.
The manual has been update and the upcoming Karmic release will not contain a reference to this mode in the manual:

Can you help with this problem?
