Nth root of a number does not seem to work

Western music uses an interval between notes equal to the twelfth root of two. I cannot find an input which generates a correct answer for this value. I tried solutions posted to earlier root questions without good result. Have I forgotten too much math since I was in school or does gcalctool have a problem?

how about 2^(1/12) - this produces 1.059463094

It worked (THANKS!) when I typed the expression 2^(1/12) in from the computer keyboard, but it failed to work when I tried to point and click the on-screen buttons using my mouse. Now I know why. The [Exp] key is incorrect. I needed to use the [xY] key instead.
