malformed expression

when I try to take the inverse of the sine, cosine, and tangent, it keeps saying malformed expression.

Inverse means reciprocal. Also, the argument to the function needs to be provided so that the expression evaluates to a number.

Press 'cos'. Press 'x^-1'. Press '='. The calculator says malformed expression.

Press 'cos'. Press 'x^-1'. Press '('. Enter the number 0.5. Press ')'. Press '='.
