Gambas2 won't start - segmentation fault

Asked by Neil Anstis

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10

I've just installed Gambas2 from Ubuntu Software Center and it won't start. It seemed to install normally (no errors) but when I entered 'gambas2' into the terminal it returns with 'segmentation fault'.

I went into Synaptic and found package gambas2 was not marked. I checked it and it installed several more packages. Two other gambas packages (gambas2-script and gambas-gb-db-sqlite2) were also not marked so I installed them too, though I can't see how they could possibly have any bearing on things. I've still get the same problem.

I've looked for broken packages and missing dependencies but I can't find any (sudo apt-get install -f).

Finally, I've removed and reinstalled the lot (apt-get remove gambas2 and apt-get install gambas2). Still the same.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Software Center currently isn't advanced as Synaptic in resolving dependencies and metapackage shows a lot of them.

So maybe purge everything already installed and retry via Synaptic or CLI.
If it still doesn't work you may report or confirm a bug.

Thank you Sam, that did it, it's working now. I removed everything, deleted all the .deb gambas files in the cache and re-installed it with Synaptic.
