gaim starts and then shuts down on ubuntu 7

When I start GAIM, it shows up for a second on the system tray and then disappears. It is running on Ubuntu 7 on an Intel PC. Is there any other chat cleint I can use ? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

It depends of the networks you want to join.
If you only use msn, then you could use amsn.

Can you type "gaim" in a terminal and report here the output ?

When starting from terminal, it works ok. Also after I removed my gtalk account, it is also working fine from the Applications menu. I'll just use that. Thanks for your help.
