changing away message or changing to available status

when i type a new away message, it doesn't show up. my old one stays up.
also, i can't change to available status.

When you finish typing your away message, you need to hit the Enter key on your keyboard for Gaim to accept the input. When switching to Available status, if you don't want to put a message up, just hit enter in the white box that appears.
If this still doesn't work, you may try clearing your Gaim configuration. This will require you to input your account information and preferences again, but it may fix the problem you're having. First close Gaim. Then go to your home folder (Places > Home Folder), go to the View menu, and check off Show Hidden Files. Find the .gaim folder and right click on it, and click rename. Rename it .gaim.old, and start Gaim again. Input your account data, and see if you can properly set your away and available statuses now.

I know to hit enter when I'm finished typing, but that wasn't working. Restarting it helped! Thanks a bunch =)
