Connection problem when using yahoo messenger

I have added my yahoo ID in Gaim but still have connecting problem. Any more idea how to rectify this problem?

Open the 'Accounts' menu at the top of the Gaim buddy list. Then click the 'Add/Edit' option. This will open the accounts editing window.

Click the 'Add' button at the bottom. Change the 'Protocol' drop down box to 'Yahoo'. Enter your Yahoo ID in the 'Screen name' text box (this is usually the first part of your @yahoo.com email address - you don't need the include the @yahoo.com). Type your Yahoo password in the 'Password' box if you'd like it to be saved, so you don't have to re-enter it each time you log in. Click 'Save' at the bottom of that dialog.

Ensure that the checkbox next to the account you just created is checked, then close the accounts window. Gaim should then connect, and you should see your buddies in your buddy list.

Sorry, just to clarify, are you having trouble opening Gaim in the first place, or are you having trouble using it for Yahoo messaging? Can you get to the Gaim buddy list?

Can anyone tell me how to get the picture back on the bottom left that shows the person sending a message. I accidently clicked on it and now I don't get to see the picture they are using for chatting. Thanks.
