ICQ Contacts disappeared after adding account

Asked by Josef Renklint on 2006-12-05

I just set my ICQ-account up, and then the program gave me a couple of error-messages saying something about me not being able to add more contacts because I had "too many on your friends-list". Note: I didn't actually add contacts, it was just the contacts I had stored on my ICQ-account that were being listed in the buddy-list. Now all my ICQ-contacts are gone, and I have no idea on how to get them back. Any solutions?

You can temporarily move the GAIM configuration directory out of the way and setup the connection to ICQ again to see if it was some temporary wierdness or if it's reproducable.

Close GAIM - ensuring it isn't still open on the panel.
Go to Places --> Home Folder.
Press CTRL+H to show hidden files.
Locate the .gaim directory (note the dot in front makes it hidden).
Click once on .gaim to highlight it
Rename it by pressing F2.
Choose another name like .old-gaim
Start GAIM again and setup the ICQ connection.

If it's reproducible then please report a bug describing what the problem is.
