To configure yahoo client in pidgin:

Start pidgin/gaim (applications -> Internet -> Pidgin/Gaim instant messenger)

Click on accounts -> Add/edit

In the basic tab in the drop down box next to protocols select yahoo

In the screen name field enter your yahoo ID (ex john if email id is <email address hidden>)

In the password field enter your account password

In the Local alias field enter your nick name, check remember your password option

and check new mail notification option if you want new mail notification

and click on save then again Click on accounts -> Add/edit

and check the enabled option to connect to your account automatically when pidgin/gaim starts

and when your buddies are online you can chat..

Also..

Yahoo chat was fixed in Pidgin Version 2.2.0. You may wish to upgrade to the latest version of Pidgin(formerly Gaim).

You can see the changelog at http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ChangeLog

The easiest way would probably be to upgrade to the latest release of Ubuntu 7.10

dear i m using gaim in 6.10 ubuntu

OK.. Refer this link for adding extra repos in edgy:

But Its strongly recommended that you upgrade to gutsy from edgy as I said in my previous post

Go to https://shipit.ubuntu.com to order free gutsy (ubuntu 7.10) cd's..
