why am i not able to view a cam....and how can i make it so i can????

Some details please. Do you want to view a webcam? Or your own cam? Which program did you use?

if you have a logitech quickcam messenger (very popular as it's very cheap) you cannot use it with the quick cam driver that you get from ubuntu as far as I know. last time I used the quickcam was with breezy and I had to hunt down a patch for it and compile it myself. if it isn't a logitech quickcam messenger, try entering the model number on google followed by something like "under linux" and try to find a driver name... if you've already handled the lack of driver and your webcam is also a digital camera, you may have to put your camera into a specific mode before pluging it in... my Polaroid camera for example, needs to be set to "PC" mod before it will function as a webcam... hope some of this helps
