software updater returns failed to retrieve / check internet

Asked by Liam Shaddox

It started a day or so ago and it says Failed to retrieve information and says check internet connection. Then and this is what my major concern is about Then even after the failure message it has a bunch of remote desktop library updates. I looked on Ubuntus list of packages and these are listed but I am concerned about the coincidence and I would like to see the software updater run smoothly. Thanks for your time today.

Update. This behavior stopped. I am not sure what fixed it but it is functioning properly now.

The problem stop shortly after I removed playonlinux and deleted its resource directory in my home dir. However I have no way to know for sure it that is specifically what fixed it. For all I know it may have just been having trouble reaching a third party repository.
