how to install freemat from a tar.gz package in Ubuntu

Asked by i_karpas

I have downloaded a package for freemat, FreeMat-3.6.tar.gz, I want to install it
in a different computer that has NO internet conection and uses
an Ubuntu 11.10 operating system.
Please tell me how
I have tried it before and got a version installed that I can open
and do simple operations but it does not know functions such as plot, sin, cos, etc,etc,..
Do I need to remove the existing version before intalling the new one ?
Thank u in advance isr

Oneiric is no longer supported in any way. There are no updates for it and no community support. I suggest you remove it from the system and do a clean install of Trusty. Trusty is LTS and supported til April 2019

in reference 2 ur reply to install ubuntu 14.04, I tried it but the computer is too old to
handle it, I checked the .iso image and it was burned correctly.
So I guess I'll have 2 wait until I can get a newer computer, since the installation left it
unusable.
I'LL LIKE TO REMAIND U THAT MY QUESTION REFERED TO INSTALLING FREEMAT,
that question remains unanswered (unresolved) but at this stage it is not relevant any more
and instead of a minor problem (with freemat) I NOW HAVE A BIG PROBLEM with the computer

Can you help with this problem?
