Will we see a stable release of the server on ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Asked by kedster

Im rebuilding my homeserver and network, and wanted to try out FreeIPA, but just noticed that its not packaged for ubuntu 20.04 yet. I realize it is still not released, but will we see Freeipa updated or is it not in the works?

The FreeIPA client is available for Ubuntu 20.04, but the FreeIPA-Server apparently does not work.

From the changelog:

freeipa (4.8.6-1ubuntu1) focal; urgency=medium

  * Build just the client for Ubuntu, because the server doesn't work
    with bind 9.16.

I just wanting to know it its on its way or not and a general timeline (days, or months)

I was still hoping to get an answer about the future of the server.

Sounds like Webmin. You can do all the things that freeipa does using SSH and learning the commands

I just want to clarify, My simple question is weather freeipa is being developed/fixed to later run on Ubuntu 20.04 in the future.

I understand that there are issues with it and bind right now, but will that be fixed or rectified to run on Ubuntu 20.04.

actionparsnip, Yes you can acheive many of the same funtions of freeipa, but it is a full service with ldap, kerbernos, sssd , user management and many other things.
Again I am not asking if it is here now, but weather it is being developed/packaged for 20.04 LTS. I am right no lab testing a new server, and looking forward to using freeipa, but if its not being packaged to natively run then I will be moving towards usingthe docker container they have available.
